A Brief History
Ted was born in Victoria, Texas, and grew up in Edna, Texas. His father was a professional photographer & his mom owned the only laundry & dry cleaning business in Jackson County. He has 2 brothers & 2 sisters, all still living in Texas. Georgie was born on a sheep farm in the hills approx. 30 miles north of Wanganui, New Zealand. She grew up on the farm, except for Jr. High through High School at boarding school. She is the youngest of 5 children. All her side of the family live in NZ, except 1 sister in Australia. Ted served 3 years in the US Navy, and a few years at the U of Texas, then went to work for a Houston seismograph company that sent him overseas to Singapore for 2 yrs. However, after 7 months, they transferred him to Australia where he met Georgie. She was an airline hostess working in Sydney. They were married on Georgie's parent's sheep farm in NZ the day after Christmas. After marriage they lived in a seaside apartment in Darwin, Australia where Georgie worked in a ladies boutique and Ted continued his seismograph work for another year, after which they moved to Houston, Texas. After arriving in Houston, Ted was still working with the seismograph company, and after a few months they told him he was being transferred to Algeria for a desert crew. Since Georgie was "with child", he left the company and went to work for a Commercial Kitchen Design Co. in Houston as a draftsman/designer. Georgie gave birth to identical twin boys and 3 yrs. later another son, all born in Houston. About a year later Ted was offered a job with a large commercial/industrial ventilation equipment manufacturer in Wausau, Wisconsin that wanted to expand into the commercial kitchen market and hired him as general manager of that new division. Four years later Ted left the company and started a branch office for a manufacturer's rep. company to cover the northern half of Wisconsin and the upper peninsula of Michigan selling commercial & industrial ventilation equipment, calling on engineers & contractors. Ted did that for the next 25 years. Ted retired from that company and continued to pastor a small non-denominational church that he had been pastoring for a few years. During those years of pastoring they also opened a couple of "RockWater" coffee house/youth centers for the 16 to 20 year old group, promoted concerts, and furnished & ran, sound & lighting for non-profits throughout central Wisconsin. In March 2015, they merged the Church with another area Church, spent a few months helping with the transition, while selling off most of their personal "stuff", except for the items they wanted their kids to have. In June 2015, they bought a new SUV for traveling and left Wausau, WI to house/pet sit full-time, and visit their 3 kids, 9 grandkids, friends and family in Tennessee, Wisconsin, Texas & New Zealand, plus a little preaching of the love & grace of God when the opportunities and invitations present themselves. Georgie continues her art, where possible, and keeping up with everyone on Facebook, and gardening everywhere, of course. Georgie, having been raised on a sheep farm, riding a horse to a 1 room primary school in the hills of New Zealand, has her roots as a farm girl, raising sheep, horses, chickens & dogs. Ted was raised in a small south Texas town, spending much of his time fishing, hunting and working on rice farms & ranches. Over the past 50 years they have always had at least one dog, and an occasional cat, hamsters, bird and fish. When not caring for the animals at their house sits, Georgie enjoys gardening and keeping things clean & in order. Ted enjoys working in the yard, fix-it jobs, hosting (3) websites and keeping Quickbooks for churches. |
